Significance: Whole haldi is tied into the mangalsutra thread and into the kankan worn at weddings, placed in the kalash at sthapana, ground fresh for the haldi ceremony before a wedding, and kept in the shrine and with the account books as a mark of auspiciousness. Turmeric is associated with Lord Vishnu and with Gauri, and the colour itself is regarded as protective — which is why it marks doorways and thresholds at Diwali.
