How to Choose a Mandir for Your Home

A mandir is the heart of a Hindu home. Choosing one is easier than it looks. Here are four simple steps.

1. Measure your space first

Measure the shelf, wall or corner where the mandir will go. Write down the width, depth and height.

On our website, every mandir size is shown as width x depth x height in inches, so you can check it fits. Leave a little room on top for the domes, and in front for your thali and diya.

2. Pick a style

  • Jaipuri – painted by hand in bright Rajasthani colours.
  • Sevan wood – carved by hand in pale, natural wood.
  • Wooden – solid wood, carved and painted.
  • Glass – crystal glass with built-in LED lights.
  • Oxidised silver – silver-tone metal with copper roofs.
  • MDF – lighter and easier on the budget.

3. Open front or with doors?

Open front mandirs make daily aarti simple. Nothing is between you and God.

Mandirs with doors keep your murtis free of dust. They are good for a living room, or if you want to close the mandir at night.

4. Think about the murtis

Check the murtis you have will fit inside, with room for a diya. Need new ones? See our murtis.
