Cotton saree fall — the sturdy strip of fabric stitched inside the hem of a sari to take the wear where it drags on the floor. Roughly 5 inches wide and 2.40 to 2.45 metres long, enough for one sari.
The fall does two jobs: it protects the hem, which is the first part of a sari to fray, and it adds just enough weight that the pleats fall properly instead of flying up. It is stitched to the wrong side so it is never seen from the outside.
