Lotus Diya – Brass & Copper Petals

A lotus-shaped diya with petals in alternating copper and brass, opening around a deep turned oil well at the centre. Both metals are left in their natural colour rather than plated, so the warm red of the copper sits against the yellow of the brass and the whole piece catches light from every angle once the wick is lit.

It sits flat and low, which makes it easy to place — straight onto the mandir shelf, into a pooja thali alongside the kumkum and rice, or out along a windowsill or staircase for Diwali. The well is deep enough to hold oil for a long aarti rather than needing topping up halfway.

Significance: The lotus is the seat of the deity and the emblem of purity rising unmarked out of muddy water, which is why so many diyas and asanas take its shape. Lighting the lamp is the first act of pooja — the flame stands for knowledge dispelling ignorance, and the diya is lit before any other offering is made.
