The damaru is the small two-headed drum carried by Lord Shiva — pinched at the waist, with a knotted cord and a beaded striker on each side. Twist it from the wrist and the beads swing round to strike the skins, giving the quick rolling rattle heard in aarti and bhajan.
Turned wood painted in the traditional red, yellow and green bands, laced with cotton cord over natural skin heads. Five sizes, from a 7 inch child's damaru up to the 15 inch that carries properly across a room.
Sizes
- XSmall — 7 x 6 inch — the pocket size, light enough for small hands, and the one children reach for first.
- Small — 8 x 7 inch — a step up in tone while still very easy to twist.
- Medium — 10 x 8 inch — the everyday choice for home aarti.
- Large — 12 x 9 inch — deeper and louder, suited to group bhajan.
- XLarge — 15 x 11 inch — the fullest sound, and a striking piece beside a Shiva murti even when it isn't being played.

- Natural skin heads laced with cotton cord
